Arequipa Peru

Arequipa is a city in the Southern Coastal region of Peru. Situated in a valley next to the Chili River and encircled by snow-capped peaks like the Misti Volcano, and the Chachani and Pichu Pichu Mountains, it is the second largest city in Peru. Known as "the white city" due to the abundance of buildings constructed from a light-colored volcanic rock called sillar, Arequipa not only shines in its sunny, dry climate but also sits majestically among the spectacular volcanoes that serve as its backdrop. With a collection of beautiful colonial buildings, a delightful tropical main square, and excellent local food specialties, even the most casual visitor can stay occupied for several days. Add to this a sprawling, vibrant convent complex, the archaeological marvel of Juanita, and a bustling local produce market, and it becomes one of Peru's most memorable cities. Lastly, its close proximity to natural wonders like the Colca Canyon and the Valley of Volcanoes quickly makes it one of the must-visit cities in all of South America. Arequipa is and should be a destination in its own right.
